William Kentridge: The Battle Between YES and NO
The first large-scale exhibition in Czechia devoted to William Kentridge, one of the most celebrated artists of our time. Kentridge grew up in Johannesburg during apartheid and became involved in anti-apartheid activism as a student; that experience shaped a practice which reflects South Africa’s social and historical tensions while speaking to universal human themes. Working across drawing, sculpture, performance, film and opera, he combines traditional techniques with collaborative experimentation. The title refers to a series of early prints and animations in which the words “Yes” and “No” merge into “Noise”. Designed as a spatial collage of interconnected fragments, the exhibition traces his path from early charcoal films to recent multidisciplinary projects.
