Zea

Arnold de Boer, singer of the Dutch noise-punk band The Ex, has performed in Prague many times as a solo artist. This year, his solo project Zea has expanded into a four-piece band with a unique repertoire and sound — the cello sometimes sounds like percussion, other times in an ethereal high register with the bow held close to the bridge, the drumming is stripped to its essence, and Xavier Charles's clarinet completes the collective sound poems. The magical soundscape is further enriched by Frisian, de Boer's native language. In Prague, Zea presents the new album In lichem fol beloften, recorded live on the Frisian Islands in a rural church, with contributions from the sixteen-member drum ensemble Hallelujah Makkum, with whom de Boer began his musical career as a seven-year-old child.
