Witold Gombrowicz: Ferdydurke
The situation of one grown man, into whose life an authoritarian secondary-school teacher intrudes to drag him back into the world of adolescence, embarrassment, awkward intimacy, erotic awakening and posturing. In a jungle of grimaces, pretence and slogans, conditions must be created for one's own authentic voice — one must face the fact that becoming yourself is impossible, that being human means being unnatural. This is the first Czech stage adaptation of the novel that brought Witold Gombrowicz into the spotlight, directed by Lucie Ferenzová.
